The Future of the Professions (and Professionals) in the AI Age

How AI is changing the work the next generation is training for

Free seasons of talks and sessions, one profession at a time, for the students and graduates training to join it, and the businesses and educators who'll shape their first jobs.

About

About this programme

Every profession is having the same argument

Engineers, architects, lawyers, doctors, musicians: each profession is asking what AI means for its work. What do clients still need us for? Which skills still matter? And what happens to the routine early-career work that used to be how people learned judgement?

Most of those debates happen inside each profession, among people who've already made it. The people with the most at stake are rarely in the room: the students and graduates training for the work as it's going to be, not as it was.

That's who this programme is for. Each season follows one profession and asks what its next generation needs to arrive ready. It isn't a collapse story. Professions that adapt for their clients' benefit can come out stronger, and we want to explore that with them.

We go looking for the innovators

Everyone in Agent Build Club is an innovator: looking at how something is done now and finding a practical way to do it better. So each season spotlights the innovators inside a profession or industry that's changing, and looks at three things:

  • The profession itself. How the work, the codes and the relationship with clients are shifting.
  • The people already in it. The new skills experienced professionals need, so they can keep leading and keep teaching.
  • The businesses that will hire the next generation. How practices and firms need to evolve to take on graduates whose first rung looks very different.

Is your profession having this debate?

We're starting with engineering this November and architecture in spring 2027. Next, we'd like to build seasons with:

  • the legal profession
  • medicine
  • health and care professionals
  • musicians and the performing arts

If you work in one of these professions, or in a professional body, practice, firm or school that trains its next generation, we'd like to hear from you. We'll build a season around your profession's debate with you: talks, innovation sessions and hands-on work that help the next generation enter it ready.

And if there's a profession you think we should be doing a season on, tell us that too.

What you get

What it is and what it gives you

The Future of the Professions is a free programme of seasons, each looking at how AI is changing one profession and the work its next generation is training for. A season brings talks from practitioners, hands-on sessions and time to think it through with students, businesses and educators together. Between sessions, the conversation carries on in our community.

01
Hear from practitioners
Talks from people doing the work now, about what is actually changing.
02
Try it yourself
Hands-on sessions where you build, test and ask your own questions.
03
Learn across the table
Work alongside students, businesses and educators facing the same changes.
04
Keep the conversation going
Carry on between sessions in our community, with the people you met.

How it works

Step by step

Each season follows one profession through a run of talks and sessions. Come to all of it, or just the parts you need.

Pick a season

Choose the profession that matters to you. Each season has its own page with dates and sessions.

Register for sessions

Every session is free and you register on Luma. There is no application, and no need to come to them all.

Join the conversation

Between sessions, carry on in our community. Share what you are seeing and ask what others are trying.

Then take it into your work

Use what you learnt in your course, your team or your teaching, and come back when the next season starts.
